IN MEMORIAM

The AUPresses community has lost a number of valued members this year.

Julio Paredes, Director of Ediciones Uniandes in Bogotá, passed away in August 2021. Paredes was a firm believer in the value of a global community of university presses, and his perspective and support will be greatly missed. Read a tribute to his life and work.

Luther Wilson, who worked at Cambridge University Press, University of Oklahoma Press, University of Syracuse Press, University of New Mexico Press, and University Press of Colorado passed away in August 2021. Wilson served as Director at Syracuse, Colorado, and New Mexico (twice). Read a tribute from the University of Colorado Press.

Walter Hildebrandt, retired former director of the University of Calgary Press and Athabasca University Press, passed away in October 2021. Read his obituary

Luke Beckwith, Media Production and Accessibility Co-op 2.0 senior intern with University of Cincinnati Press, passed away in December 2021. With the Press since November 2019, Beckwith was a fourth-year electronic media and IT major. 

Jean Lenore Wilson passed away in February 2022. Wilson’s career in the university press community spanned decades and included tenures at University of Toronto Press, University of British Columbia Press, and University of Manitoba Press. Read the In Memoriam

Mark Konecny, Scholarly Communications and Digital Publishing Strategist at the University of Cincinnati Press, passed away in February 2022. Read an appreciation of his work and friendship.

James R. Langford, former Director of the University of Notre Dame Press, passed away in March 2022. Langford had been Director of the Press for 25 years. Read more about his life and legacy.

Boyd Zenner, longtime Acquisition Editor at the University of Virginia Press, passed away in April 2022. Zenner had retired in June 2020 after 30 years with the Press. Read her obituary
